I hope this email finds you all well.
You all would have likely heard the Prime Minister's announcement that school will be open from Monday 18 May under Level 2 restrictions.
We are really looking forward to having all children back at school from this day. The information we have received from the Ministry of Health and Education is that school is a very safe place for children to be. With that said, you can rest assured that we are opening and adhering to all of the guidelines to ensure we operate with health and safety in mind at all times in Level 2 for children, staff and community.
There's a few things I need you to be aware of moving forward in relationship to Level 2 Health and Safety.
Fist, please do not come into the school grounds unless you absolutely need to. If you do come into the school grounds you must first report to the office. We encourage you to ring first. If you do need to come into the office, please exercise the 2 metre distancing rules meaning you may have to queue on the ramp outside. Also, Mrs Duffell will need to record you in a contact/trace list. Naturally, we will accept people in the office for new enrolments and emergencies.
At the end of the day wait for your child in the car or outside the gate and again exercise the 2 metre social distancing rule if the people around you are not from your social or family group or is someone you do not know.
Children are not allowed to share food or drinks. We are obliged to provide a means for children to drink and fill their drink bottles, meaning we will open the drinking fountains and clean them daily. But my advice is to ensure your child has a full drink bottle that is big enough for them each day so they do not need to fill bottles up or drink from the water fountain. We will also as a staff talk about safe water fountain drinking habits incase.
Breakfast Club will operate from Tuesday 19 May.
We will reinstate kapa haka, pasifika, buddy reading, discovery learning from Tuesday 2 June, all going well.
If your child is sick they must stay home. If they present unwell at school, we will call you and move them to the sick bay. We can bring your child to the gate if you call us from the car. Please keep your child home and get your GPs advice before retuning them to school.
If you child is immunocompromised and you feel they should stay home I would advise you to talk to your doctor first as we have had a few examples now where staff and children have seen their doctors resulting in the risk being really quite insignificant. This has resulted in staff and children being confident to return to school knowing they are in fact really quite safe here.
As usual, if there are any concerns or questions, feel free to email me princiaplnetherby@gmail.com.
We look forward to seeing all of the children on Monday 18 May.
Kind regards
Phil Wheeler
