Subway Cup Success

Yesterday, the full Netherby Ripa Rugby Team headed to Oamaru to contest the Subway Cup, having qualified here in Ashburton a few weeks back. We made it all the way to the grand final where we lost to a better team on the day. However, 2nd place out of 20 other teams to make the finals, is a sterling effort and one worth celebrating. Credit to the wider team who all contributed to training practice, injury and illness cover, and for being there to support us on the field on the day. A shout out to Roz for her coaching of many of these players over the years, Tuvale for his on the day support, and Semi for coaching us to another level to be more competitive in this tournament. We had a truly awesome day. Great work Netherby Community. Not bad for a small family oriented school.

A big shout out to the Netherby School Support Staff!

A big shout out to the Netherby School Support Staff for all you do for our ākonga and kura.  Great work Andrena, Cassie, Jan, Maureen, Rachel and Jodi.  Enjoy the accolades, the morning tea and the NZEI paid union meeting today!  We look forward to the annual parade in the hall!   Have a great day.  From us all.

Both Annie Lee and Linda Bullock, first two on the left of the photo were also recognised for the support they provide to ākonga and the support staff themselves in their role.  Absent: Roz Cuter and Graeme Dowie.

Tip For Parents

Give your child every opportunity to read to you daily. Ten minutes of reading five times a week = 50 minutes of reading time a week.

If you did this for a minimum of 35 weeks a year we have your child engaging in text for 29 hours extra every year! That 29 hours helps your child read better because they do more miles, are exposed to many words, and importantly are exposed to many ideas through the text.

It is a win - win for all concerned!
