School Rules

These are few and based on common sense, safety, personal responsibility and consideration for others. They relate to commonly-held values within society.

We have a positive school-wide behaviour system in place and classroom teachers have their own behaviour management system for use in classrooms.

School Uniform

Ashburton Netherby School has a designated school uniform, which students are required to wear. It provides a way to identify the students and through this identification, a source of pride in our school and who we are. Our uniform is sold through the school uniform shop. Uniform item details and shop opening hours can be found within the enrolment folder and in the foyer of the school office.

School based uniform shop is open Thursday 2.45 - 3.15pm.

Stationery

Stationery lists for each class are issued at the end of each year. Competitively-priced book packs specific to each class are sold through a local supplier towards the end of the summer holidays.
At all times we try to keep requirements to the minimum. A supply of most exercise books, pencils and rubbers are sold at the school. When a purchase is made we ask you to send the correct money in the envelope provided as soon as possible.

Sunhats

Students are required to wear a school sunhat in Terms 1 and 4. We have a No Hat - No Play policy. Wide brim sunhats are part of the school uniform and should have the Netherby School logo printed on them as well as the child's name. These currently only cost $12.50 with your child's name on them.  Please ask at the school office for further details.

Swimming

Our swimming programme is undertaken at the EA Networks Community Pool.  Children are grouped according to ability.

Travelling to and from School

Make sure your child knows how to cross roads safely if they are walking by themselves.  Children and parents are to use the crossing outside the school gate when crossing the road.  Please ensure you do not ask your child to cross to the other side of the road without using the crossing. There is a teacher on crossing duty every day after school.

The yellow lines either side of the pedestrian crossing are no parking areas.  They are there for the safety of pedestrians and your children.   We also ask that parents refrain from performing U-turns in front of the school.

Children are expected to walk their scooters and bicycles from the school gate until they are past the pedestrian crossing for safety purposes as the footpath between the school gate and the pedestrian crossing is often congested.

Tip For Parents

Give your child every opportunity to read to you daily. Ten minutes of reading five times a week = 50 minutes of reading time a week.

If you did this for a minimum of 35 weeks a year we have your child engaging in text for 29 hours extra every year! That 29 hours helps your child read better because they do more miles, are exposed to many words, and importantly are exposed to many ideas through the text.

It is a win - win for all concerned!
